Kanish Bay


Kanish Bay (50˚15'00" 125˚20'00" NW end of Quadra I, N of Campbell R). In her book Exploring Quadra Island, Jeanette Taylor quotes Lekwala (or Liq’wala) speaker George Quocksister, who translates this name as “you can walk through to the other side.” Lekwala is the language of the Lekwiltok (or Euclataw) people, who are closely related to neighbouring Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations and whose territory includes Quadra I.
