Jepther Point


Jepther Point (50˚52'00" 127˚54'00" S side of Goletas Channel, W of Shushartie Bay, N end of Vancouver I). Named after Jepther James Skinner (1868–1934), from Ont, who was an early settler at Shushartie Bay. He bought the Shushartie Trading Post in 1895 from William McGary, who had built it about 1891, and also farmed, raised livestock and did a little placer mining for gold. The post featured a store, the post office and a few sleeping rooms, and soon became a regular Union steamship stop....
