Hutt Island


Hutt Island (49˚25'00" 123˚23'00" NW of Bowen I, Howe Sd, NW of Vancouver), Hutt Rock (49˚24'00" 123˚23'00" Just SW of Hutt I). Capt John Hutt (1746–94) commanded the 98-gun HMS Queen, flagship of Rear Adm Alan Gardner, in the celebrated 1794 English Channel battle known as the Glorious First of June, in which Lord Howe defeated a French fleet. Hutt, who had served on the W Indies Station in the late 1780s with Gardner and a young Lt George Vancouver, lost a leg in the action and died...
