Hunter Channel


Hunter Channel (52˚00'00" 128˚11'00" Between Hunter I and Campbell I), Hunter Island (51˚57'00" 128˚00'00" N of Calvert I, S of Bella Bella). The 334-sq-km island is part of the traditional territory of the Heiltsuk First Nation. It was the site of an early Icelandic colony; the first settlers began to arrive about 1912 and made their living from logging and fishing. Most had left by the mid-1920s.
