Hume Rocks


Hume Rocks (52˚39'00" 128˚49'00" Entrance to Laredo Inlet, S end of Princess Royal I). Sapper Robert Hume was a member of the Columbia detachment of Royal Engineers, which served in BC 1858–63. He arrived at Victoria in 1859, travelling in the Thames City with the main body of men. Hume stayed on in BC when the contingent disbanded, taking land near Burnaby’s Central Park as his military grant (awarded to sappers who chose to stay in the colony) and purchasing additional property.
