Humchitt Island


Humchitt Island (51˚55'00" 127˚54'00" Off SW tip of King I, Fisher Channel, SE of Bella Bella). Humchitt (or Haémzit) is the name of a hereditary chief of the Heiltsuk First Nation. Chief Humchitt’s village was at Fannie Cove on Hunter I, but he and his descendants, including Moody Humchitt (1870–1949), became leaders at Bella Bella, where many people still bear this name.
