Houstoun Passage


Houstoun Passage (48˚56'00" 123˚36'00" Off the N end of Saltspring I, Gulf Is). Capt Wallace Houstoun (1811–91) served on the Pacific Station aboard HMS Trincomalee, 1853–56, spending some of that time as part of an Anglo-French squadron that saw action during the Crimean War. In 1859 he was capt of HMS Orion in the Mediterranean. Houstoun was promoted to rear adm in 1865 and became an adm, retired, in 1877. His name often appears misspelled Houston.
