Hornby Point


Hornby Point (52˚09'00" 131˚07'00" NW tip of Kunghit I, QCI). William St John Sumner Hornby was present on the Pacific Station as a naval cadet aboard HMS Portland, 1851–52, and as a midshipman aboard HMS Virago, under Cdr James Prevost, 1853–55. He later served on the Australia Station with HMS Challenger and reached the rank of capt, retired, in 1882. Named by Cdr Prevost during his 1853 survey of Houston Stewart Channel. W
