Home Bay


Home Bay (53˚16'00" 129˚05'00" NW side of Princess Royal I). Named at a very early date (about 1837) after Capt David Home, first cdr of the historic HBC steamship Beaver on the Pacific coast. Home had earlier been employed by the E India Co but was appointed to sail the Beaver to N America in 1836 and then oversee the installation of its boiler and paddlewheels. He was drowned in 1838, along with the crew of his small boat, while trying to cross the mouth of the Columbia R. W
