Hilton Point


Hilton Point (53˚49'00" 128˚52'00" W side of Douglas Channel, just S of Kitimat). BC’s Geographical Names Office notes that prospector John Hilton discovered and mined gold and copper on Gribbell I, S of the point, opposite Hartley Bay, around 1900. Although development work was done on the island in 1900–1905 by several US firms, no ore was ever shipped and no John Hilton is mentioned in the annual reports of the BC Ministry of Mines.
