Hicks Point


Hicks Point (54˚12'00" 130˚16'00" N end of Smith I, S of Prince Rupert). Robert Hicks (1828–1910), from Norfolk, England, joined the RN in 1845 but left three years later and immigrated to N America. He served in the US Navy and was a crew member on USS Decatur in 1854. Hicks came to Canada about 1856 and was employed as master of a number of trading vessels on the BC coast, especially in the QCI. In the late 1860s he worked in Alaska as a pilot.
