Heynen Channel


Heynen Channel (49˚10'00" 125˚55'00" E of Father Charles Channel, N of Tofino, Clayoquot Sd, W side of Vancouver I). Named in 1934 for William Lambert Heynen (1856–1939), a Roman Catholic missionary at Clayoquot, 1888–92. Heynen was in Victoria in 1881 and probably taught at St Louis College, the Catholic boys’ school. He was one of the first Roman Catholic priests in SE Alaska, working at Juneau and Sitka in the mid-1880s. After Clayoquot, Heynen served for several years at Nanaimo....
