Herbert Head


Herbert Head (52˚58'00" 132˚15'00" W entrance to Douglas Inlet, Moore Channel, NW Moresby I, QCI). Nathaniel Bland Herbert was 2nd master aboard HMS Thetis, on the Pacific Station, 1851–53, under Capt Augustus Kuper. He helped George Moore, master of the Thetis, survey the Englefield Bay region (formerly known as Gold Hbr) off NW Moresby I in 1852. Herbert was promoted to master in 1855 for his services during the Crimean War. Nearby Bland Point is also named for him.
