Helgesen Point


Helgesen Point (48˚20'00" 123˚33'00" S side of Pedder Bay, S tip of Vancouver I). Hans Lars Helgesen (1831–1918), born in Norway, came to Canada in 1858 and secured a Crown grant of land in the Metchosin area in 1871. He had immigrated to N America in 1849 and joined the California gold rush. He met his wife, Irish-born Lillian Margaret Calhoun (1835–1903), at San Francisco, where she was working as a seamstress, and married her at Victoria in 1862.
