Harwood Point


Harwood Point (49˚39'00" 124˚28'00" W side of Texada I, S of Gillies Bay, Str of Georgia). Named in 1945 after Commodore Henry Harwood (1881–1950), who commanded a squadron of three cruisers—HMS Exeter, HMNZS Achilles and HMS Ajax—at the Battle of the River Plate, where the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee was eventually destroyed at Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1939.
