Harris Peak


Harris Peak (50˚13'24" 127˚43'51" S of head of Klaskish Inlet, NW side of Vancouver I). Capt Charles Israel Harris (1867–1969), from NS, went to sea at the age of 14 and survived two shipwrecks before his 17th birthday. In 1886 he sailed to Victoria via Cape Horn in the schooner Sapphire, and after a few years ashore he became a member of the Victoria-based sealing fleet. He was master of several sealing vessels, including the Mary Taylor, May Belle and E B Marvin, as well as the Sapphire....
