Hardinge Island


Hardinge Island (50˚21'00" 125˚21'00" W side of Sonora I, N of Campbell R). Cdr Edward Hardinge (1830–94) served on the Pacific Station, 1861–63, in command of the Cameleon, an RN corvette. He was in charge of the 1863 naval expedition that hunted down a Kuper I First Nation chief named Acheewun and his followers, who were convicted of the murders of two Gulf Is settlers and hanged (see Lamalchi Bay).
