Hamber Island


Hamber Island (49˚19'00" 122˚56'00" W of Turtle Head, Indian Arm, NE of Vancouver). Named after businessman Eric Werge Hamber (1879–1960), lt gov of BC, 1936–41. He was born in Manitoba and moved to Vancouver in 1907 as a bank manager. In 1912, Hamber married Aldyen Irene Hendry (1885–1988), whose father, John Hendry, owned BC Mills Timber & Trading Co, the province’s largest lumber manufacturer.
