Hakai Passage


Hakai Passage (51˚43'00" 128˚04'00" Between Hecate I and Nalau I, S of Bella Bella). The name is believed to come from a Heiltsuk First Nation word meaning “wide passage.” The waterway, renowned for its salmon fishing, is protected to the N and S by the 123,000-ha Hakai Conservation Study Area, home to at least 130 archeological sites and some of the province’s finest wilderness kayaking opportunities.
