Green Bay


Green Bay (52˚20'00" 126˚59'00" N of junction of S Bentinck Arm and N Bentinck Arm, W of Bella Coola). While the origin of the name Green Bay is uncertain, its former name, Porcupine Cove, was bestowed by the NWC’s Alexander Mackenzie after his hungry party shot and gratefully consumed a porcupine at this spot in 1793. Mackenzie had just reached salt water on his historic overland journey from the interior and become the first white person to cross N America from coast to coast.
