Goletas Channel


Goletas Channel (50˚49'00" 127˚44'00" Between NE end of Vancouver I and S side of Hope I and Nigei I). Spanish explorers Dionisio Alcalá-Galiano and Cayetano Valdés named this channel Salida de las Goletas, or Schooners Exit, in 1792. They were referring to their own vessels, the Sutil and Mexicana, as this was the way the expedition passed out to sea and returned to Nootka Sd on its historic circumnavigation of Vancouver I.
