Gold River


Gold River (49˚41'00" 126˚06'00" Flows S into Muchalat Inlet, Nootka Sd, W side of Vancouver I). The name appears on maps as early as 1869. A persistent rumour that gold was discovered here by the Spanish in the 1780s and then mined by Chinese workers brought to Nootka Sd in 1788 by fur trader John Meares has never been remotely proven.
