Gikumi Point

Gikumi Point (51˚18'00" 127˚36'00" W end of Greaves I, Takush Hbr, Smith Sd). The 17-m Gikumi was built in Vancouver in 1954 for Fred Wastell, owner of the sawmill at Telegraph Cove on NW Vancouver I. It was originally constructed to tow logs for the mill but was also used as a pilot boat, harbour tug and cargo vessel. Stubbs I Whale Watching bought the Gikumi in 1980, and it became BC’s earliest whale-watching craft. The name means “chief” in the Kwakwala language.
