George Point

George Point (48˚19'00" 123˚32'00" S end of Bentinck I, SW of Victoria, S tip of Vancouver I). The origin of this name is uncertain. Before 1934, the feature was known as Tughope Point, after the tug Hope, which was assisting the grounded freighter Eemdyk in this vicinity when it capsized, with the loss of six lives (see Eemdyk Passage).
