George Passage


George Passage (50˚41'00" 126˚50'00" N side of Malcolm I, Queen Charlotte Str). Capt William E George (1834–1922), from London, UK, arrived on the BC coast about 1859, and from 1865 to 1868 was master of the trading schooner Alpha, the first vessel built at Nanaimo. After the wreck of the Alpha (see Alpha Bay), George worked for the Alaska Commercial Co as capt of the Constantine and then became a well-known Victoria-based pilot on both the BC and Alaska coasts.
