Geneste Point


Geneste Point (50˚30'00" 125˚51'00" SW entrance to Topaze Hbr, N side of Sunderland Channel, N of Johnstone Str). Louis Geneste (d 1872), from the Isle of Man, was 3rd lt aboard HMS Topaze, under Capt John Spencer, and served on the Pacific Station, 1859–63. He entered the RN in 1844, reached the rank of cdr in 1866 and was in command of gunboat Torch in the Mediterranean in 1871. Nearby Geneste Cone is also named for him.
