Garvey Point


Garvey Point (52˚46'00" 128˚08'00" NE side of Mathieson Channel, E of Pooley I and Princess Royal I). Signalman William Garvey, of Vancouver, was killed in action Mar 18, 1945, aged 22. He was serving aboard HMCS Guysborough, a minesweeper torpedoed and sunk by a U-boat (U-868) while escorting a convoy in the Bay of Biscay, off France. Fifty-one crew members died. Garvey’s name is inscribed on the Halifax Memorial.
