Garnier Bluff


Garnier Bluff (53˚08'00" 128˚35'00" At mouth of Aaltanhash Inlet, E of Princess Royal I). John Miller Garnier (1774–1802) was a midshipman aboard HMS Chatham on Capt George Vancouver’s 1791–95 expedition to the PNW coast. He was promoted capt of HMS Hawke in 1801 and participated in the British takeover of Dutch and Danish possessions in the W Indies, where he died shortly afterwards of yellow fever. His older brother, Thomas Garnier, was dean of Winchester, 1840–72.
