Fern Passage


Fern Passage (54˚19'00" 130˚16'00" Between NE side of Kaien I and the mainland, Prince Rupert). The 15-tonne steam launch Fern, under Capt Robert Shears, was hired by surveyors in 1904–5 to help examine the area and find an acceptable terminus for the GTP. This narrow waterway, only navigable at high tide, was named by surveyor J Fred Ritchie.
