Fane Island


Fane Island (48˚48'00" 123˚16'00" N of Hope Bay, NE side of N Pender I, Gulf Is). Charles George Fane (b 1837) was a sub-lt (or mate) aboard HMS Ganges while it was the flagship of Rear Adm Robert Baynes, cdr-in-chief 
of the Pacific Station, 1857–60. Fane also eventually reached the rank of rear adm, in 1890. Named by Capt George Richards of HMS Plumper in 1859.
