Estero Basin


Estero Basin (50˚30'50" 125˚11'00" Between N end of Frederick Arm and S end of Bute Inlet, N of Campbell R). Estero is Spanish for “tideland” or “estuary” and could also be translated as “lagoon.” Frederick Arm was originally named Ensenada del Estero, or “Inlet of the Lagoon,” by Dionisio Alcalá-Galiano and Cayetano Valdés during their expedition of 1792. The name of nearby Estero Peak, which is taken from the basin, was probably applied by Lt Daniel Pender in the 1860s....
