Englefield Bay


Englefield Bay (52˚59'00" 132˚25'00" W side of Hibben I, off NW Moresby I, QCI). Named in 1793 by Capt George Vancouver after his “much esteemed” friend, the antiquary and scientist Sir Henry Charles Englefield (1752–1822). Sir Henry was a fellow of the Royal Society and the Society of Antiquaries, which produced, under his direction, a series of engravings of English cathedrals.
