Empire Anchorage


Empire Anchorage (53˚35'00" 132˚54'00" S side of Port Chanal, W side of Graham I, QCI). Named by Capt Absalom Freeman in 1912 after an iron-hulled Canadian Fishing Co halibut trawler, the Celestial Empire. Freeman made a sketch survey of the area from this 37-m, 185-tonne vessel, which had been built in 1897 to work in the N Sea.
