Egerton Point


Egerton Point (53˚29'39" 128˚58'30" E side of Ursula Channel, N of Bishop Bay, S of Kitimat), Egerton Rock (49˚29'00" 123˚57'00" Welcome Passage, E of S Thormanby I, W of Sechelt, Str of Georgia). Lt Cdr Frederick Wilbraham Egerton commanded the RN gunboat Boxer on the BC coast, 1869–72. Wilbraham Point, near Egerton Rk, is also named for him. To the Haisla people, Egerton Point is Wiilaxdels, meaning “high place to climb,” according to former UBC anthropologist Jay Powell....
