Cochrane Islands


Cochrane Islands (50˚03'00" 124˚46'00" E side of Malaspina Peninsula, N end of Str of Georgia). Possibly named after Adm of the Fleet Sir Thomas John Cochrane (1789–1872), the unpopular first resident gov of Nfld, 1825–34, who was cdr-in-chief of the RN’s China Station in the 1840s and cdr-in-chief for Portsmouth, 1852–55.
