Bull Harbour


Bull Harbour (50˚54'00" 127˚56'00" S side of Hope I, off N end of Vancouver I). This very old name was known to HBC officers as early as 1840 and likely refers to the many huge and cantankerous adult male sea lions found in the area. HBC gov Sir George Simpson visited in 1841 and mentions both harbour and sea lions in his 1847 book Journey Round the World. The harbour was the site of Humdaspe, the principal Nahwitti First Nation settlement after the Tlatlasikwala and Nakumgilisala tribes...
