Bryden Bay


Bryden Bay (48˚40'30" 123˚24'28" N side of Tsehum Hbr, just N of Sidney, Saanich Peninsula, S Vancouver I). James Bryden (1825–87), a native of Scotland, was a farmer and miller and one of the first landowners in N Saanich, purchasing 65 ha at Canoe Cove in the late 1860s or early ’70s. He helped Henry Brackman start his pioneer flour mill in 1878 at nearby Tsehum Hbr. The name was adopted in 1965 after a submission by local residents.
