Boyles Point


Boyles Point (50˚49'00" 127˚01'00" W entrance to Wells Passage, Queen Charlotte Str, N of Malcolm I). Capt Charles Boyles (1756–1816) achieved much acclaim as an RN officer. In 1794, as cdr of HMS Swiftsure, he captured the French frigate L’Atalante and its famous cdr, Charles-Alexandre Durand, Compte de Linois. As cdr of HMS Windsor Park, Boyles played important roles in Sir Robert Calder’s 1805 battle off Finisterre and in Sir John Duckworth’s forcing of the Dardanelles in 1807. He...
