Bonson Rock


Bonson Rock (52˚39'00" 129˚15'00" NW of Clifford Bay, W side of Aristazabal I). Sgt Lewis F Bonson (1831–1917) was a member of the Columbia detachment of Royal Engineers, which served in BC 1858–63. He was born in Peebleshire, Scotland, apprenticed as a furniture maker and wheelwright, then served in Turkey, Gibraltar and Central America before returning to England, marrying Jemima Urquhart and volunteering for service in BC.
