Bland Rocks


Bland Rocks (53˚02'00" 129˚43'00" Off Oswald Bay in the Estevan Group, SE of Banks I, N of Caamaño Sd). James William Bland (1853–1921) was born in Peru and moved in 1859 with his family to Victoria, where his parents established an early Esquimalt hotel, the well-known Halfway House. Bland worked as an usher at the Supreme Court of BC for 31 years, retiring in 1919. The feature was named in 1926 by hydrographer Henri Parizeau.
