Berge Islet


Berge Islet (49˚43'17" 124˚10'20" In Blind Bay, S entrance to Jervis Inlet, NW of Vancouver). Stoker 1st Class Olaf Elmer Berge, of Vancouver, was killed in action Apr 16, 1945, aged 20, while serving aboard HMCS Esquimalt. The minesweeper was torpedoed near Halifax Hbr by the German submarine U-190, with the loss of 44 hands. Berge is buried at Mountainview Cemetery, Vancouver. This is a relatively recent place name addition, adopted in 1990.
