Belleisle Sound


Belleisle Sound (50˚53'00" 126˚25'00" S side of Kingcome Inlet, N of W Johnstone Str). Named in 1864 by Lt Daniel Pender of the hired survey vessel Beaver, in association with Kingcome Inlet. Cdr John Kingcome had been in command of HMS Belleisle, a 20-gun troopship, in China in the 1840s. In 1863–64, as a rear adm, he was cdr-in-chief of the RN’s Pacific Station, based at Esquimalt.
