Beech Islet


Beech Islet (52˚02'00" 128˚17'00" SE of Athabaskan I, SW of Bella Bella). Commodore William James Robert Beech (1895–1975) was born on Saltspring I, enrolled as a cadet at the Royal Naval College of Canada in 1912 and first served on submarines, becoming cdr of HMS L-1 in 1920. He married Beatrice Annie Wolfenden (1902–87) at Esquimalt in 1924. Beech commanded a number of RCN vessels, including the trawler Thiepval (1924) and the destroyers Patrician (1924–26) and Saguenay (1936–38)....
