Baker Shoal


Baker Shoal (52˚31'00" 129˚27'00" E of Aristazabal I, Hecate Str). 2nd Cpl John S Baker came to BC with the Columbia detachment of Royal Engineers, which served in the province 1858–63. He arrived with the main contingent of men aboard the Thames City in 1859, and in 1861 was appointed chief constable at Rock Ck, where he attempted to bring order to that tumultuous boomtown during its short-lived gold rush. In 1862, tragically, Baker drowned in the Harrison R.
