Arbutus Bay

Arbutus Bay (49 ̊20'00" 123 ̊22'00" S side of Bowen I, W of Cowan Point, Howe Sd, NW of Vancouver). A number of BC coastal features draw their names from the distinctive arbutus tree, Arbutus menziesii, with its peeling red-brown bark, white flowers and red berries. This name was bestowed by lawyer George Cowan and his wife in 1907 after the grove of trees beside their Bowen I home. It was formerly known as Wilson Bay after early Bowen summer holidayers Dr David Wilson and his wife.
