Aitken Point


Aitken Point (48˚50'52" 123˚14'43" E side of Mayne I, Gulf Is). John Aitken (1873–1959) was born at Lanark, Scotland. He came to BC in 1881 and logged, prospected and beachcombed, then landed on the Gulf Is, where he worked as a farmhand on Moresby I and also for Max Enke on Galiano I. Aitken bought a home and store at Miners Bay on Mayne I in 1908 and was postmaster from 1912 to 1916. In 1920 he acquired George Paddon’s Horton Bay farm, where he raised sheep and prize flowers.
