Abrams Island


Abrams Island (52˚32'00" 128˚50'00" W of Swindle I, NW of Bella Bella). James Atkinson Abrams (1845–1914) was born at Napanee, Ont. He came to Victoria in 1867, then moved to Nanaimo, where he became president of the Nanaimo Tanning Co and, from 1878 to 1882, the MLA for the area. He was appointed a justice of the peace in 1890. Abrams, his US-born wife Georgina Elizabeth (1861–1925) and their family later moved to Cumberland. Formerly known as Double I but renamed in 1927.
