Village Island


VILLAGE ISLAND is one of the jumble of islands lying between northern VANCOUVER ISLAND and the mainland coast near the entrance to KNIGHT INLET. It is part of the traditional territory of the Malaleleqala, of the KWAKWAKA'WAKW (Kwakiutl) First Nations. Their main village site, MAMALILACULLA, located on the west side of the island, is now largely abandoned, though people return for visits.
