Thetis Island


THETIS ISLAND  () , 26 sq km, pop 349, opposite CHEMAINUS, is one of the least developed of the GULF ISLANDS between southern VANCOUVER ISLAND and the mainland. Despite a ferry link to Chemainus, it has no parks and few TOURIST facilities, which suits its small population. It is named for HMS Thetis, a 36-gun British naval frigate in the area from 1851 to 1853. It was joined to KUPER ISLAND until 1905, when a canal was dredged between them....
