Swan


SWAN is a large, white, graceful waterfowl with a long, curved neck and a black or orange bill. It prefers wet, usually freshwater, habitat: ESTUARIES, flooded fields, marshland, lakes and ponds. Three species occur in BC. The most numerous is the tundra swan (Cygnus columbianus), also known as the whistling swan, which migrates through the province to and from its Alaskan breeding grounds.
